Managers of the Tyson Events Center, Orpheum Theater and Sioux City Convention Center updated the council on operations and programming on Monday, reporting 97 events in calendar year 2025 and several high‑attendance shows.
"We did 97 events in calendar year 2025," Chad Smith, general manager of the venues, told council members. He and Nick Palmayati, senior director of booking and marketing, highlighted headline acts and tournaments that drove attendance, and noted infrastructure work completed over the year including a roof replacement, HVAC repairs and exterior LED lighting upgrades.
Council members and venue staff discussed the challenge of attracting touring acts to a smaller market. One councilmember urged the city to budget modest "walking-around" money to make promoter deals more attractive — effectively a small marketing or ticket‑support fund — and staff said targeted promoter investments can help increase profitability for acts and make Sioux City more competitive with nearby larger markets.
Venue operators said they also plan to use data from Placer AI and Ticketmaster to show where attendees travel from, and they will follow up with the council on how the city’s promotional investment could be structured. The venues and the city said they see the facilities as complementary: the Expo Center and Convention Center draw sporting events and midweek conference business while the Tyson and Orpheum focus on larger entertainment dates.
What happens next: OVG (the facility manager) and venue staff will provide data on regional attendance and options for modest promoter support for council consideration.
