Commission continues long-running enforcement case against MLK Drive property with daily accrual noted

Norwalk City zoning staff told the commission Jan. 29 that the property at 349 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive has been the subject of repeated enforcement actions for years for contractor-yard activity and storage of building materials without permits.
Staff reported a prior judicial fine (approximately $30,000) that had been recorded as a lien and later paid or resolved during a tax-sale process. Photos and drive-by inspections show building equipment, concrete piles and material storage; staff said a new citation from Nov. 5 now accrues daily at $150 per day.
The property owner, identified in the record as Mr. D'Antonio, was not present and the hearing officer declined to conduct an evidentiary hearing without the owner or counsel. The hearing officer said he would not set a specific contingent fine immediately but would determine fines after reviewing the full file; staff was directed to send notice to the owner that daily accruals are running and to return the matter on Feb. 25 for further proceedings.
Staff and commissioners remarked on the property's long enforcement history going back several years, and that the south portion of the parcel is the subject of the current citation; staff will coordinate with legal counsel as the case proceeds.
