Decatur County approves resolution to allow school funding and backs $150,000-a-year preschool support

Decatur County’s meeting on routine business ended with the board approving a resolution to let certain economic-development funds be used to support local schools and a separate motion to provide multi-year support for the Greensburg preschool program.
The board voted to adopt a resolution, identified in the meeting as "resolution number 20062020Six-one," that would amend the county economic development plan to permit funding "for all schools that serve Greensburg and Decatur County," according to an unidentified speaker who introduced the item. The measure passed by voice vote after a motion and second.
Greensburg Community Schools asked the board for direct support to sustain its preschool program. The district representative (S4) described the program’s track record preparing children for kindergarten and said the district requested $150,000 to support the program for 2026–27 and 2027–28 and discussed a three-year stabilization plan. "I was asking, the board to approve $150,000 for 2627 and '28 to help us get through," the speaker said. A board member (S3) moved to approve $150,000 a year for three years for school years 26, 27 and 28; another member (S2) seconded. After brief discussion about whether to fund year-to-year, the motion carried by voice vote.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved routine fiscal items requested by the Community Foundation, including the first installment for the Fairgrounds Community Building and a first installment for the county pools. Board members asked why the Community Foundation was handling receipts; speakers explained it functions as a pass-through for donations and tax handling, which helps enable charitable contributions.
The board did not specify individual roll-call tallies in the meeting record; motions were approved by voice vote during the session. The board also circulated the signed resolution and noted the item will be on the Area Planning Commission’s agenda on March 4 for any necessary follow-up.
The next scheduled county meeting was set for Feb. 18.
