Commissioner Caroline Mejia asked the board to authorize a letter of support to Senator Bateman for the Housing Authority’s application to purchase a Department of Natural Resources parcel located in the Lacey urban growth area. Mejia said the Housing Authority has demonstrated interest in the site, that Senator Bateman expressed support and requested the Housing Authority submit an application, and that the requested letter would not commit county funds but would affirm collaborative interest in pursuing public acquisition and long‑term planning for mixed‑income housing.
“—The letter reflects a collaborative effort among local and state partners pursue public acquisition and long term planning for future mixed income housing,” Mejia said, adding that infrastructure funding would remain the Housing Authority’s responsibility. A motion to authorize the chair to send the letter on behalf of the board was moved, seconded and approved; the chair called the vote and the clerk recorded unanimous approval.
County staff said they would apply electronic signatures and return the signed letter for transmission. Commissioners asked staff to continue coordination with the Housing Authority and state contacts on next steps.
