The Scott County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 21 to award a county building roof repair contract to Caldwell Contracting (low bid $19,500) and approved the purchase of a one-ton pickup truck for the highway department at the low bid of $64,901.50.
Kevin Hall of the Scott County Highway Department briefed the board on equipment and procurement. Hall said heavier-duty trucks tend to last longer in county fleet use; commissioners agreed the one-ton truck is better value and moved to approve the low bid from John Jones for $64,901.50. On roofing, staff reported two comparable estimates (Caldwell Contracting and JA Bridal Construction); the board voted to accept Caldwell's low bid.
Commissioners also discussed use of a long-reach excavator that had been funded by grants and used for river-bottom log removal; county staff agreed to coordinate scheduling so departments needing the equipment can plan work.
The motions were approved by voice votes during the meeting; the board did not record a roll-call tally in the publicly read motion text.
