Neighbors urge DOT to reconsider lane reductions on Greenbrier Parkway

Atlanta — During public comment, Sherry B. Williams told the Transportation Committee she and neighbors do not support ATL DOT’s proposed reduction of travel lanes on Greenbrier Parkway.
Williams said the Greenbriar Land Use and Transportation (LCI) study adopted in 2019 called for "five lanes plus bike lanes" and that reducing the corridor from six travel lanes (three in each direction) to four (two in each direction) would worsen congestion and not provide a permanent left-turn lane residents want to ease traffic flow. She warned that upcoming development across from Greenbriar — a 1,000-unit apartment complex approved by Invest Atlanta — will increase traffic and urged DOT and GDOT to coordinate on access and safety solutions.
"We are taxpayers and we know we pay your salaries. When we spend time in community engagement, please listen to us and execute our wishes," Williams told the committee.
Commissioner Solomon Cabaniss acknowledged the comments and said ATLDOT heard concerns about Greenbrier and will schedule additional meetings, loop in GDOT for the intersection issues raised, and gather more community feedback before moving forward.
