Carter County staff report progress on debris removal, FEMA documentation and hazard mitigation grants

The commission discussed Category B (protective measures), Category C (roads and bridges) and Category Z (administrative) project lists. Staff warned that if the county does not use loan proceeds, repairs would be paid from the county fund balance, which is insufficient to cover the full scope of needed work. Temporary bridge work and other immediate repairs were noted as candidates for use of disaster-account funds and purchase orders already on the agenda.
Staff also reported progress on hazard mitigation applications, including a grant in excess of $1,000,000 for Eric Anderson Park. Commissioners and staff described prioritization criteria that focus on sites where blockages threaten critical infrastructure such as bridges and EOCs.
Next steps: continue weekly coordination with FEMA and TEMA, complete portal uploads, pursue hazard mitigation grants and return to the commission with recommended contract awards and budget amendments.
