NORTH BROOKFIELD — The Town of North Brookfield Board of Selectmen on Jan. 27 accepted a staff resignation, approved a revised senior-center job description and made committee appointments with caution after ethical guidance was raised.
Speaker 1 read a two-week resignation letter from Megan Carney and the board voted to accept it. Speaker 2 described Carney as a good fit and called the departure a loss for the town.
The board approved a revised job description for a part-time Senior Center Program Assistant (15 hours per week). Speaker 5 explained the town had discussed whether the position should remain at 18 hours but removed outreach duties from the role after liability concerns, allowing a reduction to 15 hours and modest labor-cost savings. Speaker 3 said the change provides flexibility for evening or Friday programming to support the Council on Aging director.
On appointments, Speaker 1 moved to appoint Jessica Fulgham and Ernie Grimes to the Memorial Park Committee. During the discussion, Speaker 1 reported advice from the Attorney General’s office that three committee members living in the same household could create a quorum concern; the board discussed reducing the committee size to three to avoid potential problems. The board approved the appointments and noted volunteers may still assist without formal committee membership.
Speaker 1 said the job description will be posted and the board confirmed it would coordinate meeting postings and swearing-in logistics for new appointees. The board then proceeded to remaining agenda items and adjourned.
