Board approves Baldwin Hotel Museum painting, electrical work and $1,100 cultural grant

The Klamath County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 20 approved multiple actions to upgrade the Baldwin Hotel Museum and expand its community programming.
Museum Director Ashley Affleck Johnson told commissioners the county aims to expand the Baldwin from a museum into an event and rental venue to draw tourism and local users. The board approved an $11,410 painting quote from All Pro Painting and Construction to renovate the lobby, mezzanine and second floor; funding for that contract will come from the Klamath County Museum Foundation, with no fiscal impact to the county general fund.
Commissioners also approved an electrical upgrade contract recommendation for Schaeffer's Electric LLC at $31,995 to modernize the second floor—work intended to allow heating and cooling for year‑round use. The director said $25,765 of the cost will come from remaining COVID‑19 pandemic grant funds and the museum foundation will cover any remaining balance.
Finally, the board authorized acceptance of a $1,100 grant from the Klamath County Cultural Coalition to underwrite a May–September countywide "Museum Field Journals" program providing supplies and advertising for family‑friendly activities across libraries and the museum. "We're hoping to make it an event venue... and to start that, we're hoping to begin with the lobby, the mezzanine, and the 2nd Floor," Ashley Affleck Johnson said.
All three motions were moved and approved by voice vote during the meeting. The museum director said the foundation has agreed to fund amounts not covered by the grants and bids presented.
