Culpeper Community Pool nears completion; county targets Memorial Day 2026 opening

Culpeper County’s first public community pool is moving toward opening, county parks officials said on a recreation program broadcast from the Culpeper County Fieldhouse. Director Andrew Varney said construction is approaching final stages and the department is targeting a Memorial Day 2026 opening.
Varney said contractors are finishing site work and pool systems: “Taft Construction is doing all the sidewalk systems… and Olympia Pools is transitioning to finishing up the filter room,” he said. Varney described a plastering window that requires about 20 warm days followed by a roughly 14-day curing period; the department expects to have more water in the pool by April.
The department also plans operational steps beyond construction. Varney said staff must be recruited and certified, and that he, Tabitha Riley and two other staff members plan to obtain aquatics facility operator certification in March. “We’ve gotta get folks in the lifeguard stands…we’ve gotta get them certified,” he said.
To support the facility, Varney said a proposal for a new parking lot will go to the county’s buildings and grounds committee in February. The project would add about 148 spaces and could be used jointly with Eastern View High School during events.
Rates, hours and facility usage rules will be presented to the Board of Supervisors in February in a presentation-format item; Varney said if the board follows the staff recommendation, summer memberships could go on sale March 1. He emphasized that affordability will remain a priority and reminded residents that existing financial-aid and scholarship programs can help cover membership or registration fees for eligible Culpeper County residents.
Varney urged residents to watch for a formal membership and access announcement in a future program and through department communications. “If you need some help to do or to access the pool, just contact us, let us know, and we will see what we can do to get that,” he said.
Next steps: presentation of rates and the facility usage packet to the Board of Supervisors in February; certification and hiring through March; membership sales tentatively beginning March 1 if the board approves the staff recommendations.
