The Lewiston City Council on Monday approved a pair of public-works items: a design task order for transfer-station floor repairs and a closeout change order for a neighborhood street project.
Public Works Director Dustin Johnson said the transfer-station concrete floor requires repair and that the city solicited a design task order from Great West Engineering. The council approved task order 2026-1 in the amount of $104,600; Johnson said the city had budgeted $100,000, so a $4,600 amendment will be needed. He described construction-cost ranges for transfer-station floors between roughly $74,000 and $723,000 depending on scope and materials, and said staff intends to complete design this summer and construct in the fall if schedules align.
Separately, council approved change order number 2 in the amount of $69,359.50 for IFB-25-010 (12th Street, Warner Avenue to Airway Avenue). Johnson described the change order as a typical closeout reconciliation of actual quantities; the project came in under the engineers' estimate and was partially funded with a Child Pedestrian Safety grant.
Councilors asked about reusing older designs and floor-life options; staff said the structure itself is sound and the work is a wear-layer replacement rather than a full building rebuild.
What comes next: Staff will execute the design task order, perform concrete testing and finalize construction specifications, and proceed toward a construction procurement once design is complete.
