Havre de Grace council adopts Main Street grant budget amendment

The Havre de Grace City Council on Jan. 20 adopted Ordinance 12-15, a budget amendment authorizing the spending of Main Street Improvement Program grant funds for fiscal year 2026. The measure passed on a roll-call vote recorded in the meeting transcript as 6–0.
Supporters told the council the grant would bolster downtown activity and help pay for event coordination. "It's a good grant," said Kirk Smith during the public hearing, adding that the city will match the award and that the funding should "help with downtown" by supporting part-time staff and programming.
City staff and the mayor thanked organizers and council members for approving the amendment. Director Ritchie later told the council the funds will go a long way toward a successful Main Street program and that the administration will reapply for additional community legacy funding to sustain related staffing and façade/tenant fit-out grants.
The second-reading adoption of Ordinance 12-15 was recorded during the meeting; council members voted in favor in roll call. The ordinance was introduced earlier in the meeting and had a public hearing prior to the second-reading vote.
The council also discussed recognition of the city's contribution to community events, and organizers of the Susquehanna River Running Festival were asked to acknowledge the city's support in event materials going forward.
