The Abstractors Board of Examiners presented a brief budget overview on Jan. 28, reporting an unchanged biennial appropriation of $25,723 for FY27 and routine small adjustments for contractual services.
KLRD fellow Connor Hughes said the board is entirely fee‑funded with no state general fund support; in FY25 the board issued 147 professional abstractor business licenses and 182 individual licenses. The budget is primarily state operations, with salaries and wages accounting for more than 80% of expenditures and contractual services around 14%.
Hughes said FY26 revised estimates included a small $1,100 increase for contractual services offset by a $1,200 decrease elsewhere; the biennial submission requirement (KSA 75‑37‑17f) means the board’s FY27 budget remains at the approved level. The committee had no further questions and closed the abstractors item.
