Franklin County Schools declares NTI day amid storm; evening activities canceled

Speaker 3 said there was "0 chance" of being in school tomorrow and that the district will use Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) day number 6. He noted that the district has exhausted built-in snow days in the calendar and identified four potential makeup days if needed, including dates in February, March and the Friday before Memorial Day weekend.
Facilities staff and vendor crews (Trampus' crews) have been clearing parking lots with skid steers and running 12‑hour rotations but reported that sidewalks and stairs remain difficult to clear and that salt is less effective at very low temperatures. The district said it will prioritize clearing elementary sites that host after-school programs (ASPs) in hopes those programs can open if conditions allow; there were no guarantees.
Board members asked how county roads with speed bumps would be handled; facilities staff planned to inspect sites and provide an updated status later in the afternoon. The board canceled evening activities to focus crews on lot and walkway clearing.
