Reidsville approves $78,696 change order, 120‑day extension for wastewater plant repairs

Reidsville — The Reidsville Regional City Council voted Jan. 13 to approve Change Order No. 4 for the city’s wastewater treatment plant improvement project, adding $78,696 to the contract and extending the contractor’s schedule by 120 days.

Public works director (presenting the item) told the council the additional funds were required after crews discovered previously undetected concrete deterioration in Aeration Basin No. 2 once the basin was drained for work. The repairs include concrete joint and slab remediation and patching of spalled areas under walkways and around basin walls, work the original construction drawings did not reveal during the initial inspection phase.

Council approved the change order and the requested schedule revision. The change order revises the project’s substantial completion date from Dec. 31, 2025, to April 30, 2026, and moves the final completion date to May 30, 2026. The item passed on a motion and second and a subsequent up‑or‑down vote with no recorded dissent.

City staff said about $84,987 remained in the project contingency before this request and that the change order will be funded from the project budget. Council member questions focused on inspection timing; staff said the damage could not be observed while the basin remained in service and was revealed only after it was taken offline for repair work.
