Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Adam Smith presented the district’s annual health services data on Jan. 15, describing staffing, visit volumes and partnerships that support student health.
Smith said the district employs 21 full‑time registered nurses, one full‑time licensed practical nurse and multiple health‑room assistants who travel between buildings. He reported “over 65,000 year‑to‑date visits” through the first semester, with counts by level reported as preschool–elementary ~36,000, middle school ~13,000 and high school ~16,000.
Smith also noted that more than 484 students receive routine medications administered by school nurses. He highlighted partnerships with Big Smiles and Kids Vision that provide additional services for students, and praised the district’s lead nurse, Jenn Ahern, for coordinating data and professional development.
Board members complimented the nursing staff and asked questions; Smith described ongoing professional development, including a recent communicable‑disease prevention training from the St. Louis County Department of Health and annual CPR recertification activities. No policy action was taken; the report was accepted for information and oversight.
