ADW Architects presented two design proposals to the Rowan County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 18: an interior-concourse renovation for the Rowan Community Center and a pre-engineered agricultural storage building behind the ag center.
Architects described a new concourse layout that removes dated raised platforms and a fountain, introduces biophilic design elements, creates multiuse breakout spaces and upgrades HVAC and restrooms. The firm provided a construction cost estimate of approximately $4.7 million for the concourse, about $700,000 for exterior signage and an overall project construction cost of roughly $6.5 million including contingencies and furniture. "We've got about 4,700,000.0 for the concourse renovations," the architect reported.
The agricultural storage building concept is a premanufactured system with three 12-by-12 overhead bays, security lighting and minimal insulation; architects estimated construction around $600,000–$670,000. Commissioners and staff discussed space allocation, dimensions and use; staff noted a $100,000 line item in a recent budget year that could help the storage building project.
Architects said they will email PDFs of the designs and cost estimates and requested feedback from commissioners within a few weeks; staff said they will return with a decision to proceed to bid after any requested revisions and after confirming available funding.
