Commissioners approve settlement spending items, advisory-board replacements and adjourn after proclamation

At their Aug. 5 meeting the Bladen County Board of Commissioners recorded several formal actions by voice vote. The board approved a package of items related to opioid-settlement spending (items a–d) that will allow the county to transition to Option B planning and fund locally tailored programs; commissioners approved the $90,000 allocation to Southeast Crossroads as part of that package.
The board accepted an offered $131,622 for stream-bank rehabilitation and debris removal and directed staff to prioritize targeted sites. Commissioners moved and approved replacements for two advisory-board vacancies caused by the recent deaths of Carl Whitted and John Graham, naming Randy Jones and Darren Wheeler as replacements. The board also returned to item 4(a), moved to enact the proclamation for a state-of-emergency management declaration, recorded ayes and adopted the proclamation, then closed the meeting with a prayer and adjournment.
