Bladen County honors retiring staff and marks employee service milestones

The county recognized retirees and employees for years of service, including Brenda Thompson (detention officer), Wanda Maroney (elections director) and Lisa Nance (Economic Service Program Administrator), and acknowledged health‑department staff contributions.
The Bladen County Board of Commissioners used part of its Jan. 20 meeting to recognize several departing and long‑serving employees.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to Brenda Thompson for service as Detention Officer I (July 2018–Dec. 2025), Wanda Maroney for service as elections director (Jan. 2019–Dec. 2025) and Lisa Nance for more than three decades of service as Economic Service Program Administrator (1990–Dec. 2025). Colleagues and elected officials praised their dedication and leadership.
The board also recognized health‑department staff for milestones and operational contributions: Christy (child health/immunizations) and Patricia Smith (director of nursing/emergency preparedness) were highlighted for expanding clinical services, cross‑training and participation in accreditation and shelter operations. Regina McIntyre (housekeeping) and others were acknowledged for 5–30 years of service in departments including library, finance and the sheriff's office.
The board invited attendees to refreshments and publicly thanked honorees for their service.
