Mike Moran, director of MetroWest Academy, presented a four‑minute video and described the alternative high‑school program’s goals, community partnerships and student outcomes to the board on Jan. 26. Moran said MetroWest currently serves 84 students (up from 69 reported at the prior showcase) and that the program partners with Urbandale, Waukee and ADM districts as well as community organizations to provide internships, job‑shadowing and scholarship opportunities.
Moran said the school’s focus is individualized, student‑centered learning and highlighted the staff’s approach to engagement and small class sizes. He also reported a MetroWest graduation rate of approximately 95% over the last several years and said the program had been recognized by the National Alternative Education Association. Board members asked about capacity (director said the program could accommodate up to about 100 students before program changes would be needed) and grade levels served (primarily 11th–12th, with some sophomores and rare freshmen).
The board thanked Moran and discussed graduation timing (a tentative date of May 20 was mentioned) and follow‑up opportunities for board members to visit the campus.
