Athletics representatives presented two price examples they had gathered: used vehicles in the roughly $50,000–$55,000 range and new vehicles quoted at about $101,000. A pending grant application for two electric buses, submitted by staff member Colton, was also discussed but has not been decided.
The board discussed mileage, classification changes that could affect future travel distance, warranty and service logistics if a new vehicle is purchased, and whether to prioritize one immediate replacement or plan for two purchases later. Several members emphasized the need to give staff a spending cap so a timely purchase can be completed before the board’s next meeting.
Board member (speaker 7) moved to authorize a $70,000 budget for a replacement bus to be funded from the surplus fund balance; another member seconded the motion. The chair called the vote and the motion passed.
The authorization allows the head of school (transcript reference: Miss Hufstedler) to shop within the approved budget and return to the board if the final cost would exceed the cap. The board also noted that, if the electric‑bus grant is awarded, the school may retain or trade in an inoperable bus as part of that process.
