District reports midyear gains on diagnostics; Project Lead The Way and algebra supports expand

Ward and department staff described MTSS implementation (tiered instruction, math interventionists at each elementary building) and tools that allow teachers to drill into standards and item-level performance.
High-school presenters described algebra supports including an algebra seminar and retake strategies; staff reported that a January retake showed an increase in pass rates for many students. The board heard plans to expand Project Lead The Way into eighth grade and promote project-based learning to give students real-world contexts for math.
Questions from board members linked attendance and consistent instructional time to math performance; presenters acknowledged that missing foundational skills complicates later learning and said targeted interventions and project-based curricula are part of a broader improvement strategy.
