County assessor outlines reassessment work plan and bids, asks to restore office supply funding

Mindy Wassaline, Perry County assessor, briefed the council on the general and reassessment funds. Wassaline said last year she zeroed a $2,000 office-supplies line to balance levy funds and now seeks to restore a reasonable supplies budget; she said she would only spend what is needed and can provide a more detailed list.
Wassaline described the reassessment process: the county must statistically review a quarter of the county and sample across property classes (residential, commercial, agricultural). Field crews physically inspect properties on tablets and flag items for valuation changes; the assessor’s office sends a work plan to the state for approval and vendor bids are opening at the commissioners’ meeting next Tuesday.
The assessor also noted the county recently completed a five-year payment to ETSOFF for assessment software and expects hardware will need attention in a year or two. She said reassessment funds may pay a portion of salaries but cannot be used to pay full salaries.
