PERRY COUNTY — Commissioners reviewed the jail’s operating lines and agreed to adjust several allocations after staff provided updated midyear spending and census figures.
Finance staff reported that combined inmate-meal spending across related accounts totaled about $59,003.48 year-to-date, and that the inmate census fell from roughly 87 early in the year to about 67 at the time of the meeting. Staff said that, with current usage, an annualized projection for meals would be closer to $90,000 rather than previously higher estimates.
The board instructed staff to adjust the annual meal line to $100,000 (a conservative rounding for the coming budget) and to confirm equipment repair and other transfers that had been moved between inmate housing and other accounts earlier in the fiscal year; commissioners also asked staff to check the provenance of a taser contract that had been reallocated into the jail contracts line.
What happens next: Staff will verify year-to-date expenditures, confirm the inmate census trend and update the jail’s projected meal and equipment lines accordingly for the final budget packet.
