Commissioner Hill and county staff updated the CAB on discussions about the old elementary school site and possible workforce housing.
At the Jan. CAB meeting Commissioner Hill reported the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) gave staff direction in December to work with the county and explore partnerships to pursue workforce housing on the site. “We have talked to Reno Housing Authority,” Commissioner Hill said. If the authority is interested, the next steps would include formal board consideration and a public process with hearings before any transfer or development.
Commissioner Hill said the TTD board initially decided not to pursue a mobility hub at the site and encouraged interested residents to follow Reno Housing Authority deliberations; she said she expected a February or March meeting date and pledged to notify the CAB when that schedule is set. If housing is not viable, she said the site could be considered for another public use, leased or sold.
CAB members and residents welcomed the prospect of keeping the property in public ownership for workforce housing, and asked for monthly updates to the CAB between now and any TTD decision. No formal county action was recorded at the meeting; staff said any transfer or development would proceed through standard public hearings and planning processes.
