The Washoe County Open Space and Regional Parks Commission voted Jan. 28 to approve a three‑year special event agreement with Reno Street Food LLC to operate Food Truck North Valleys at North Valleys Regional Park.
Steve Schroeder, owner and founder of Reno Street Food, presented results from last year’s events and described the operation’s goals. "We did 31 events and we saw over a 100,000 people attended," Schroeder said, and he estimated more than $3,000,000 spent by consumers at his program’s events last year. Schroeder told commissioners Food Truck North Valleys typically schedules 12–14 trucks per night and rotates vendors so regular attendees see a changing lineup.
Under the approved agreement, Reno Street Food will host nine events per year at North Valleys Regional Park during June, July and August. The county will receive $6,600 annually under the three‑year term (2026–2028). Schroeder said staff coordination with parks, fire and public‑safety partners is part of his application process and that vendors are required to maintain inspections and permits.
Commissioner Hill moved to approve the agreement; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Commissioners praised the event’s community and economic benefits and asked staff to continue coordination on ingress/egress, parking signage and fire‑safety inspections.
What happens next: staff will finalize the agreement and proceed with the event scheduling and permit exchanges ahead of the June start.
