Humboldt Bay district adopts resolution to amend CalPERS contract after employees opt into Social Security

The Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution of intention to amend its contract with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) after staff said recent employee elections require a contractual change to permit Social Security participation.
A staff member told the board the district reviewed the matter with staff and legal counsel and recommended the amendment: "From time to time, we have to update our agreements with CalPERS... we have to change our our contract with CalPERS," the presenter said. Staff said the resolution is an intention to amend; the actual contract language will be returned to the board for formal adoption at a subsequent meeting.
The board took a roll call vote with Commissioners Dale, Benson, Newman, Norton and President Coleman recorded as voting yes. The chair announced the resolution "passes unanimously."
