The Fresno County Board of Supervisors proclaimed January 2026 as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month on Jan. 27 and heard a series of presentations from local advocates and agencies about prevention and survivor services.
Supervisor Magsick introduced the proclamation and invited representatives from Fresno County Economic Opportunities (EOC), Central Valley Justice Coalition, Central La Familia and the Consulate of Mexico to speak.
Evelyn Gonzalez, outreach coordinator with Fresno EOC——Central Valley Against Human Trafficking, described the importance of public awareness and encouraged residents to report tips to the national human trafficking hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Krista Wiens of the Central Valley Justice Coalition and Martin Rodriguez of Central La Familia described local service models, training and the varied forms trafficking can take, including labor trafficking in agriculture and service industries.
Valeria Solorio, head of protection at the Consulate of Mexico in Fresno, outlined the consulate——s role in assisting victims and the range of harms trafficking survivors experience. Community partners urged the board to prioritize demand-reduction strategies, training for front-line workers, and funding for survivor services.
The board approved the proclamation by unanimous voice vote and thanked the advocates for their work.
