Tiburon commission forms ad hoc group to plan —Summer of Love— music event

The Tiburon Heritage & Arts Commission voted unanimously on Jan. 27 to form an ad hoc committee to develop a proposal for a "Summer of Love" music event, a townwide outdoor concert or series celebrating multicultural music and performance.

Commissioner Nora Noguez described the idea as a nonpartisan, multigenerational set of performances that could include music, dance and artist-activated installations. Noguez cited previous successful outdoor concerts and suggested coordinating with local partner groups to draw families, seniors and young people.

Marissa, a town staff member, told commissioners the proposal could be submitted as a cohosted event in response to a current call for proposals, and that the commission has funds potentially available to support event proposals. Chair Gupta moved to form an ad hoc committee composed of Nora Noguez, Charlie Ediman and Metoria Fong to develop the proposal; a commissioner seconded the motion and the commission approved it by voice vote.

Multiple commissioners volunteered to serve and to help draft a submission. Chair Gupta and commissioners discussed timing, with the intent to prepare a cohost proposal and explore opportunities for single-day programming rather than a multi-day festival if capacity is limited.

Next steps: the ad hoc committee will draft a proposal for commission review and, if appropriate, prepare materials to respond to the town's call for event proposals. No budget was adopted at the meeting; commissioners flagged coordination with the Diversity & Inclusion Task Force and town staff for permits and logistics as follow-up items.
