Lincoln County commissioners approved the reclassification of a corrections officer position to a deputy sheriff at their Jan. 27 meeting.
Human resources director Carrie Elling and Terry Lundin explained the county needs certified staff with arrest authority to provide coverage at both the justice center and other county facilities. "We need somebody in both places that has arresting authority and is certified," Elling said, describing a staffing gap in the corrections ranks that the reclassification will address.
There was no public comment on the request. A motion to approve the reclassification was moved and seconded and passed on roll call.
Next steps: Human resources will process the reclassification and begin recruitment or classification adjustments as needed.
