Summary
Eden City Council approved a staff-requested amendment to add $460,000 to an existing CDBG Neighborhood Redevelopment grant to fund demolition-rebuild of owner-occupied houses and replace playground equipment at the Bridge Street Recreation Center.
The City of Eden on Jan. 6 voted to seek a $460,000 amendment to its Community Development Block Grant (Neighborhood Revitalization) award. City staff said bids to rebuild owner-occupied homes exceeded original allocations and proposed using additional grant funds to complete housing reconstructions and replace playground equipment at Bridge Street Recreation Center.
Planning staff outlined a breakdown of proposed additional spending: $247,500 for construction of final residences, roughly $125,000 for playground equipment and installation, $37,002.50 for administration, and $50,250 for construction management and related delivery costs, bringing the total requested increase to $460,000. Staff noted final amounts will be subject to state review of the requested amendment and subsequent bidding.
Council held a public hearing and, with no public opposition offered at the hearing, approved the request to proceed with the program amendment and forward it for state consideration. City staff said CDBG projects often move slowly and estimated a timetable of roughly 12–18 months for procurement and installation of the playground once funds are finalized.
