Senators suspend rule to introduce three retirement bills tied to judicial, school employee and patrol plans

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Legislature voted to suspend Rule 5, Section 15(a) to permit immediate introduction of three bills related to public retirement plans.
Senator Mike Ballard moved the suspension, saying past practice has allowed the introduction of structurally sensitive retirement measures during short sessions when actuarial recommendations make timing important. The motion passed without opposition; the clerk reported 36 ayes and no nays.
Following the suspension the clerk read legislative bill 1101 (a Nebraska Retirement Systems Committee bill adjusting the state contribution to the Nebraska Judges’ Retirement System and declaring an emergency), legislative bill 1102 (relating to timing of cost‑of‑living adjustments under the Omaha School Employees Retirement System following a management transfer), and legislative bill 1103 (sponsored by Senator Bostar, relating to the Nebraska State Patrol Retirement Act, including changes to deferred retirement option plans). The clerk provided statutory section citations for each bill as read.
Senators and staff will refer the bills to the appropriate committees for further consideration.
