Nebraska Legislature introduces dozens of bills; motion to withdraw LB729 adopted 39–0

Lawmakers in the Nebraska Legislature introduced a large slate of new bills on Jan. 9 and adopted a motion to withdraw one bill by a recorded vote.

The clerk announced numerous bill introductions spanning criminal law, public health, education, revenue and agriculture. Notable bills read into the record included LB909 (Sen. Hardin) addressing assault by law enforcement officers and related registration and victim-notification provisions; LB911 (Sen. Hardin) concerning fees for electronic devices seized in prosecutions; LB912 and LB913 (Sen. Hardin) addressing applied behavior analysis licensing and a Community Health Worker Training Endorsement Act; LB915 (Sen. Lippincott) on municipal inland port authority districts; and LB916 (Sen. Myers) addressing approval of pipelines to transport carbon dioxide and related eminent-domain provisions. A second series of introductions included bills on worker adjustment and retraining, learning-community levies, a "Safe Parks and Public Spaces" act, changes to assistance time limits, and multiple agriculture and health-related measures.

Earlier in the session the clerk noted a motion from Senator Couth to withdraw LB729 with MO348. Senator Kautz explained that LB729 had been heard in committee the prior year and that an attempted amendment had been submitted accidentally. The presiding officer called the question on the motion to withdraw; the clerk recorded the vote as 39 ayes, no nays. The motion was adopted.

Clerk announcements set the last call for bill introductions at 11:50 a.m., and the referencing committee scheduled a meeting in Room 1524 upon adjournment. The session adjourned to reconvene Monday, Jan. 12 at 11:00 a.m.
