Alderman Don Cook announces resignation after decades of service; colleagues pay tribute

Alderman Don Cook told the council he submitted his resignation to the mayor in December, effective at the end of the month, and reflected on his combined service of 54 years in law enforcement and 14 years as an alderman.
"After I had served in the city for, like, 54 years in law enforcement and and being an alderman, it's...time for me to move on," Cook said. He thanked colleagues and family for their support and noted accomplishments during his tenure, including downtown improvements and water and sewer work.
Skip Bradshaw, a retired city clerk, spoke in tribute and recounted Cook's mentorship and service to the city, thanking him for his contributions and friendship. Mayor Ezzard and other council members also thanked Cook and acknowledged his long record of public service.
