Staff explained the existing board still functions but relies on outdated programming hardware and is nearing end-of-life; an upgraded full-colour reader board was estimated at roughly $19,000. Councilor Chris (staff presented) said the Lions Club "very generously offered $10,000" toward the purchase, and staff expects transit-lodging-tax funds to cover the remainder. Councilor Andrade moved to accept the donation and Councilor Erwin seconded; the council approved the acceptance and expressed appreciation to the Lions Club.
City staff described the intended public-use policy for the reader board (nonprofit/community messages only), a five-year service plan included with the purchase, and plans to acknowledge the Lions Club on a donor plaque at the park.
Next steps: procurement and installation are expected within several months and staff will confirm final costs and acknowledgement language as part of the vendor and installation process.
