Subcommittee unanimously advances narrow fix to add Broadberry to performing‑arts license exception

Delegate Carr introduced HB 1045 to include the Broadberry in a legislative exception created last year for performing arts facility ABC licenses that required venues to have seating for a minimum of 500 patrons. "House Bill 10 45 is intended to simply place the Broadberry on a level playing field with these 2 other venues," the sponsor said.
Lucas Fritz, an owner and founder of the Broadberry, described the venue's history since opening in April 2014, its capacity (about 450 patrons) and its role in producing concerts and supporting artists. Fritz asked the committee to allow the Broadberry a narrow six‑month window to apply for the performing arts facility ABC license so the venue could be regulated consistently with nearby competitors.
The committee moved to report HB 1045 and the bill reported out of the subcommittee by a recorded vote of 9 to 0.
