Committee tables bill to create state funding for volunteer fire and rescue after insurer opposition

Opponents, notably the American Property Casualty Insurance Association, warned the change would increase insurance premiums and that the cost would be spread across policyholders.
After an amendment adjusting implementation timing and debate over premium impacts, the committee voted to table HB986. The sponsor signaled plans to continue working on the proposal.
