Downtown Adrian fire relief fund at $22,185.99; board outlines plan to prioritize residents

The Main Street board heard an update April 9 on a downtown fire relief fund that organizers expect to close within days.
Jacob, presenting the financial report, said the board and the Community Foundation seeded the account and reported the current balance: "As of this morning, that fund balance is at $22,185.99," he said. Jacob said the board contributed $10,000 and the Community Foundation added $5,000 as matching contributions.
The fund is designated to help people and businesses affected by a recent downtown fire. Jacob described how donors can give: "You can either go on the Downtown Adrian Facebook, and there's a link on there where you can make a donation through PayPal with your debit or credit card. Or if easier, you can drop off check or cash to the community foundation, and they will get it put into the fund for us." The board chair noted the fundraising goal is $25,000.
On how payments will be made, Jacob said the board prepared an allocation and does not expect a public application process: "So it's not gonna be like an application... We essentially did a breakdown trying to get money to residents first and businesses secondly," he said, adding that the first-round checks would go out late this week and the fund would be closed in the next week or so.
Board members urged additional donations and a reminder from another attendee advised donors to "be sure that you select the 1 that you want to donate to" when using the online link because several funds appear on the page.
No formal vote was required beyond acceptance of the financial report, which the board approved during the meeting. The board invited further contributions and said staff will provide a disbursement summary once checks are issued.
