Main Street staff presented a proposal to develop and design a downtown wayfinding system and asked the board to review, not to decide, at the July 9 meeting.
Jay, Main Street director, described a $62,000 proposal to analyze downtown landmarks, traffic patterns and both vehicular and pedestrian flows and to produce a wayfinding plan. He said that the $62,000 covers development and analysis (design and planning) but does not include fabrication or installation of signs. Jay gave example kiosk fabrication costs drawn from vendor materials: about $12,000 for a static kiosk and $30,000 for a digital kiosk, and he noted those prices do not include electricity, Internet or the software to operate a digital kiosk.
Board members questioned whether the $12,000 static price included fabrication and installation; Jay clarified the firm would help with vendor outreach but the fabrication would be done by third-party fabricators. A board member asked Jay to reach out to suggested vendors for signage to provide a ballpark total package estimate (development plus signage) so the board can understand the full cost before making any commitment.
Jay said he will consult the design committee, seek references from other communities that have used the vendor, and gather vendor-suggested fabrication pricing to present a fuller cost estimate for board consideration. No formal action was taken; the discussion was informational and the item will return for committee review.
