Residents press city on AB 413 compliance, crosswalk visibility and parking enforcement

A resident who identified himself as Roberto Dunnis told the commission Montebello is "out of compliance, with respect to the daylighting of all, curbs in the city of Montebello" and called on the city to paint all curb approaches 15–20 feet red as required by the law. Staff and commissioners responded that the city has been working since last year to implement daylighting and said red‑curb painting is occurring through scheduled work orders and commission items; staff invited the public to notify Public Works of specific locations they believe have been missed.
Commissioners and residents also raised recurring problems at intersections such as Wilcox (left‑turn violations after a right‑turn only change), worn striping at Greenwood and West Olympic Boulevard, and reports of late‑night vehicle dropoffs and stolen cars near South Pickering Way. The commission said staff will follow up: Public Works will create maintenance work orders for repainting and red‑curb schedules, the police sergeant in charge of traffic was noted as present and enforcement follow‑up will be considered, and the public‑works director said larger changes (for example, traffic signals) may be recommended to City Council with funding requests later in the fiscal year.
Commissioners urged applicants to appear at meetings when their requests are agendized so the commission can hear firsthand why they seek changes; one commissioner proposed notifying applicants explicitly when their requests reach the agenda so they can present supporting evidence.
