The Senate of Maryland unanimously adopted a resolution on Jan. 20 recognizing Korean American Day and honoring the contributions of Korean Americans across the state.
Senator from Howard and Anne Arundel Counties introduced the measure and noted three community leaders present on the floor: Soo An Lee (president, Korean Society of Maryland); Do Seok Jong (president, Arirang USA Inc.); and Yong Kim (president, Montgomery County Korean American Association). The clerk read the resolution, which "offers its sincerest congratulations to the Korean Society of Maryland in recognition of Korean American Day" and directs that the measure be presented in January 2026.
Speaking on the floor, the sponsor said the Senate was taking the moment to "recognize and honor" the Korean American community and its "enduring and significant impact" in Maryland across fields including science, education, medicine and the arts. After the clerk called the roll on the resolution, the presiding officer addressed the guests and said the Senate "unanimously celebrates" the Korean Society of Maryland's recognition of Korean American Day and invited them to a ceremonial reception at the Governor's office.
The resolution was recorded in the Senate journal. No formal dissent or amendment to the measure was recorded during the floor action.
