Delegate Mike Griffith asked the Ways and Means Committee for a favorable report on HB 2, a priority bill that would increase the subtraction modification for certain public-safety retirement income by $5,000 for qualifying retirees age 55 and older.
Griffith said the General Assembly previously increased a similar subtraction for veterans from $15,000 to $20,000 and that HB 2 aims for parity for law enforcement, firefighters and emergency responders. "We're looking at the same thing for our our first responders," Griffith said, and noted the bill is cross-filed in the Senate.
The committee offered no substantive questioning during the hearing and closed the item.
