OMBC budget office warns of projected overspend; AG and HQIU augmentations proposed

DCA budget analyst Kayla Van Lindt told the Osteopathic Medical Board on Jan. 22 that current expenditure projections show the board trending above its $4,333,000 appropriation. "The board has a budget of $4,333,000 and is projected to spend about $4,915,000, exceeding the board's budget by approximately $582,000," Van Lindt said while walking members through the fund-condition tables.
Van Lindt described a scenario that includes estimated augmentations for Attorney General (AG) and Health Quality Investigation Unit (HQIU) costs. Under that scenario, the board's appropriation would increase and projected year-end reserve would fall to about $3,065,000 (roughly 7.4 months of reserves).
Staff emphasized the projections are a snapshot based on fiscal month 5 actuals and noted rising personnel costs (general salary increases, employer retirement adjustments) and any new legislation or unanticipated events could increase resource needs.
Board members asked follow-up questions about monitoring revenues and how additional appropriations would be requested. The budget office said it will continue to monitor revenues and expenditures and provide monthly updates.
