Philomath plans Black History Month program with Oregon Black Pioneers speaker

"We are having a Black History Month talk at the Flomus Museum, February 12 at 6PM," an event lead said, adding that the program will include short bios of honorees Tisha Carson and Mary Jane Shipley and a printed program for attendees. The committee discussed whether to record the event, who would introduce the speaker, and whether to include a slideshow.
City staff and volunteers reviewed audiovisual options used previously for a swearing‑in ceremony: a city laptop, webcam, and Bluetooth microphones. Staff said that setup provided good audio and satisfactory video, though stage lighting at the museum is limited. Committee members agreed the simpler livestream setup would increase accessibility.
Members also assigned volunteer roles: greeting and handing out programs, tech setup and screen sharing, and picking up snacks (with contingency caterers Eats and Treats and Tara's Tasty Treats mentioned). City staff said they would handle speaker payment and lodging logistics as needed.
The committee asked members to confirm whether school groups should be invited and discussed distributing promotional material to local schools and the Philomath News. Staff will finalize the program and circulate it to committee members prior to the event.
