A committee member who led the drive said postcards meant to publicize the event did not arrive on schedule, contributing to lower turnout. "To put in perspective, our March Out Hunger was 6,000 pounds, and this 1 was 900 pounds," the presenter said, noting volunteers improvised by calling friends and collecting donations from their own networks.
Organizers reported 46 volunteers who contributed about 82 volunteer hours. Committee members praised the volunteer effort while noting the lower collection total and discussed concentrating the city’s efforts around a larger March drive in future years to improve yield and planning.
Members also discussed outreach techniques, potential school involvement (student council or honor society), and the idea of having donation barrels at large community events such as a home football game to increase participation. The committee agreed to follow up mid-summer to track progress on potential football-game collection efforts and student engagement.
