Blue Earth County’s board unanimously approved a series of planning and zoning matters on Aug. 19, including interim use permits, a one-lot plat and an ordinance amendment affecting farm wineries.
John Considine, county zoning administrator, summarized staff reports and planning commission recommendations for four items:
- PC16-25: Todd and Gwen Walters requested an interim use permit to operate a Level 1 upholstery home-occupation on a shoreland parcel on the Rapidan Reservoir (53941 188th Street). The planning commission recommended approval and the board adopted a resolution to approve the permit.
- PC18-25: Applicant Thomas Strangy sought an interim use permit to extend Tommy Gun Paint Wars’ season and hours from April–September (8 a.m.–9 p.m.) to year-round (7 a.m.–midnight). The planning commission recommended approval; the board approved the permit.
- PC19-25: Tyler and Bethany Olsen requested preliminary and final plat approval for Maplewood Court (a one-lot subdivision at 1344 Maplewood Drive in South Bend Township). The planning commission recommended approval; the board approved the plat resolution.
- PC17-25: Staff presented an ordinance amendment to Section 24-325 of the Blue Earth County Code updating farm-winery operating standards and clarifying allowable uses; planning commission discussed wastewater and food-preparation standards and recommended approval; the board approved the ordinance amendment and commissioners said it will be an asset to rural wineries.
All four items were presented with no public comments at the meeting and passed by unanimous motions.
