Commissioners reviewed a resolution to approve a proposal from Fissenkrupp Elevator Corporation through the Sourcewell Purchasing Cooperative not to exceed $1,392,608.92 to modernize two elevators at the Hamilton County Courthouse.
County staff member Todd Ebersaw described the work as a full modernization: "motor controls... new hydraulic jacks... a complete modernization." He said the work will affect two of the building’s three elevators, including Elevator 105 — the only ADA access to the 5th floor — and a passenger elevator off the atrium, while one elevator will remain in service.
Several commissioners said the improvement was necessary because elevators have required frequent fire-department rescues and because ADA access to the upper floor is essential. Commissioner Mackey asked whether staff could revise wall coverings in elevator 105 during the modernization; Ebersaw said mechanical and electrical work is the priority but that the appearance issue would be noted.
Commissioner Graham recalled the prior modernization in 2010 and noted the elevators have lasted since then; staff confirmed the prior work and the need for updated equipment. The transcript does not show a final vote or execution of the contract.
