SCRTD board adopts updated Agency Safety Plan; staff to pursue further training

The South Central Regional Transit District board on Jan. 28 approved the agency’s updated Agency Safety Plan, which staff said incorporates recent U.S. Department of Transportation guidance and periodic updates made in 2025.
Executive Director David Armijo described the plan as part of the district’s broader safety management system and said the agency will continue to refine targets and training. "This plan is ... organic," Armijo said, adding staff expect to return with further updates and additional training proposals over the coming year.
Board members asked questions about safety performance targets and how system reliability is measured; staff explained targets use metrics tied to vehicle revenue miles and noted that growing electric vehicle usage changes component‑failure expectations. Armijo said the district performed well on the National Transit Database submission and that the ASP will be updated as operations and fleet composition change.
The board approved the resolution to adopt the safety plan by roll call (vote recorded 4‑0). Staff said they will bring a more definitive presentation and revised metrics to the board in the next six months.
