Council recognized Lindell Bright on the occasion of his retirement and accepted his annual Americans with Disabilities Act compliance report. Bright reviewed the city’s ADA work, including the 2014–2017 self‑evaluation and transition plan, the role of departmental accessibility liaisons, and the city's accomplishments such as closed captioning and accessible docks. He summarized ADA coverage by title: “Title 1, which is employment. Title 2 is state and local government. Title 3 is public accommodation. Title 4 is communication,” and urged continued training and staffing to maintain compliance.
Bright highlighted recurring accessibility issues — particularly sidewalks and internal employee accommodations under Title I — and said city employees often contact his office seeking workplace accommodations. He recommended maintaining training and certification opportunities for his successor and continuing cross‑departmental liaison meetings to address compliance. Councilmembers thanked Bright for his leadership; a city employee (Shelly) offered a personal testimony about the day‑to‑day benefit of accessibility measures such as automatic doors.
The council moved, seconded and voted to accept the compliance report; the clerk announced the motion passed unanimously. Bright said he will remain active in ADA networks after leaving his city post.
