A fleet staff member told the committee the city's vehicle inventory is substantial: "There's almost 1,000 vehicles right now. There's 981 was our count as of 2 weeks ago," stressing the scale of parts demand.
Staff said the additional funds reflect recent usage and that the 2023 master agreement's initial allocation has been largely expended. The committee voted to move the ordinance for debate and, during the meeting, approved the supplemental payment as described in the ordinance language presented to the committee.
Council members asked staff to return with a procurement plan and options for splitting work or bringing parts sourcing more in-house when the contract ends, and several said they expect a more detailed analysis before the next full renewal.
